[Gfoss] problemi ogr2ogr

Chiedo scusa se eventualmente il problema è già stato trattato e non
me ne sono accorto.

Sto cercando di unire più shp (tutti identici come struttura) con il
comando ogr2ogr, ma non riesco ad ottenere niente. In particolare
ricevo questo messaggio di errore:

$ ogr2ogr -append -f "ESRI Shapefile" nuovo.shp dappendere.shp
ERROR 1: nuovo.shp is not a directory.

ESRI Shapefile driver failed to create nuovo.shp

$ ogr2ogr -f "ESRI Shapefile" -append nuovo.shp dappendere.shp
ERROR 1: nuovo.shp is not a directory.

ESRI Shapefile driver failed to create nuovo.shp

Come vedete ho provato a inserire formato prima e dopo il comando
append (anche se non credo influisca), ma non cambia niente, ho
provato anche ad aggiungere a append il comando update, ma ottengo:
$ ogr2ogr -f "ESRI Shapefile" -append -update nuovo.shp dappendere.shp
ERROR 1: Failed to create file nuovo.shp/dappendere.shp.
ERROR 4: Failed to open Shapefile `nuovo.shp/dappendere.shp'.

ERROR 1: Terminating translation prematurely after failed
translation of layer dappendere

Qualcuno mi sa dare un consiglio?
