[scusandomi per cross-posting]

... per i numerosi dottori di ricerca che ci leggono...e tutto questo
potrete farlo in un paese che ha liberato 5 Tb di dati ambientali...

Three Griffith Postdoctoral Positions: Geomatics for GeoScience

Griffith Geoscience Research Awards

Grant aided by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources

Three Griffith Postdoctoral Positions: Geomatics for GeoScience

* To be appointed to the Coastal & Marine Resources Centre (CMRC),
University College Cork

* Contract duration: three years each

* Salary starts @ approximately 55k euros per annum (based on at least
three years post doctoral level experience).

Background to host organisation and the Griffith Research Awards The
CMRC is a multidisciplinary research group in University College Cork
( www.ucc.ie <http://www.ucc.ie/> ), whose primary objective is to
make a significant contribution to the scientific understanding and
management of coastal and marine environments ( http://cmrc.ucc.ie
<http://cmrc.ucc.ie/> ). The CMRC team have an established track
record in the development and application of solutions for
environmental decision making based on geomatics technology.

National research capacity is being stimulated in the field of
geosciences by a €10 million national investment as part of the
Griffith Geoscience Research Awards, which will run over the next
seven years. As part of this process, which is facilitated nationally
by the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI), three new postdoctoral
positions will be implemented to expand research in the geomatics for
geosciences field.

Collaboration with the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) www.gsi.ie
This initiative will involve a high level of collaboration between the
CMRC and the GSI.The candidates will be encouraged to spend time in
the GSI offices, Dublin, to become fully familiar with data management
and the geosciences domain, and to develop relationships with relevant
contacts. The amount of time spent in the GSI will be flexible and
will depend on individual researcher and project needs

The research will focus on web-enabled delivery and 4D visualisation
of both terrestrial and marine geological datasets, including the
Irish National Seabed Survey data. The work will also involve the
building of a common data warehouse including metadata.

Objectives of the Project

1. To facilitate open access to GSI data via web enabled services 2.
To achieve innovations in geoscience data management and delivery 3.
To build experience within and collaboration between the GSI and CMRC
4. To engage the interest of the Irish geoscience community by
providing examples of the benefits of data sharing

Qualifications

The ideal candidates for these posts will have:

Postdoctoral Position 1: Data integration A PhD in computer science or
a related discipline Experience with databases such as Oracle 9i/10g
Experience in the field of geological data modelling (e.g. Arc
Geology, GeoSciML, etc.) Experience in metadata standards (e.g. ISO
19115/19139)

Postdoctoral Position 2: Web data delivery and interoperability A PhD
in computer science or a related discipline Experience in OpenGIS
standards (e.g. WMS, WFS, WCS) and INSPIRE guidelines Experience in
metadata standards and metadata discovery Experience in the field of
Internet GIS servers (e.g. ArcIMS, UMN Mapserver)

Postdoctoral Position 3: 3D/4D web data visualisation A PhD in
computer science or a related discipline Experience in 3D/4D modelling
in the field of geological datasets.

Experience in Internet GIS, multi-layer and volumetric web visualisation.

Other desirable qualifications for all successful candidates include
Programming/web development experience Excellent team working and oral
and written communication skills Demonstration of leadership or
project management skills An interest in geosciences and the marine
environment
