Purtroppo il sito ufficiale qgis.org riporta quanto segue:

Latest release (eg. for New Users):
    QGIS Standalone Installer Version 2.14 (32 bit)
    QGIS Standalone Installer Version 2.14 (64 bit)

*Long term release* (eg. for corporate users):
    QGIS Standalone Installer *Version 2.8* (32 bit)
    QGIS Standalone Installer *Version 2.8 *(64 bit)

Appare pertanto che la Essen sia trattata come versione "normale", e non
LTR...
