The Map of Life architecture is built for scalability and performance using JavaScript, HTML5, Google App Engine and CartoDB. On the server side, all data requests are handled by Google App Engine which contains data indexes and caches. If the data are not indexed or cached, Google App Engine sends an HTTP request to CartoDB using the Maps or SQL API. The resulting data, including map tiles and GeoJSON documents, are then cached for servicing future requests.

Grazie per la segnalazione,
Raffaella
