WCMC is a UK charity, based in Cambridge, which supports the United
Nations Environment Programme. We work in collaboration with UNEP, under
the banner of UNEP-WCMC. Our mission is to evaluate and highlight the
many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge
at the centre of decision-making. Since our establishment in the 1970s,
the Centre has been at the forefront of the compilation, management,
analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity information, and has
an outstanding record of achievement.

WCMC are now seeking a Geospatial Developer to join our team to work on
high profile web projects that make the natural world better. The role
will involve working with a team of talented developers and scientist to
build the map components of our websites.
 

The role


We are looking for someone who:
• Can administer and build geospatial web applications using PostGIS.
• Has the ability to work with large spatial datasets both vector and
raster.
• Likes contributing to and working with open source technologies.
• Creates maps using JavaScript. We make a lot of maps on our websites.
• Is passionate about clean and elegant UI and code.
• Thinks it is good to document their code.
• Likes to work as part of an agile team
• Has a healthy and creative interest in trying new technologies. We
like to be innovative.
• Cares about what they work on.
 

The Team


We are a team of nine developers/IT people that work together with fifty
scientists, geospatial specialists and policy experts to create web
applications that support the improvement of our natural world. Here are
