Mi unisco all'off-topic per  consigliare a questo proposito un testo:

Rethinking the Power of Maps di Dennis Wood.

Il capitolo 2 inizia proprio dal concetto di mappa come proposizione
affermativa e totalmente soggettiva dell'autore.

"The easiest way to unleash the power of the map would be to get real
about the fact that maps are propositions. As long as we conceive of
maps as representations, our immagination will be fettered by the
received picture of the world that is claimed maps no more than
mirror. Invariably this received picture is inadequate, inaccurate,
often false; and always it is in thrall of dominant interests. Of
course this is way it is the received picture.
All that making maps of this picture does is confirm its autorithy."
