Buongiorno,

Potete comunicare la vostra candidatura a Giorgio Frigerio (g.frigerio a arcadiasit.it) o a Roberto Boca (roberto.boca a ext.jrc.ec.europa.eu, cell. 393 9295121).
In bocca al lupo.
Saluti,

Diego Magni

Duration:
400 working days (200 initially and the 200 more upon renewal)

Starting date: late May or early June 2011

Background:

 The
overall objective of the work is to assist the FOREST
staff in the analysis of European datasets in the areas of forest species
distribution, forest monitoring, forest biodiversity, and fire incidence
mapping.

 The
main tasks are as follows:

 Statistical
validation of datasets: The data cover the areas of forest species
distribution, forest monitoring, forest biodiversity and forest
fire incidence.

Spatial analysis and mapping of
     datasets: The
     work involves the spatial analysis of datasets regarding e.g. randomness
     and autocorrelation, and the subsequent mapping of the datasets according
     to European standards. It requires the use of statistical and
     geo-statistical tools to analyze spatial/temporal correlations of the
     datasets and the use of geographic information systems for the actual
     mapping of the results. Time series analysis of datasets to detect noticeable
     trends: Since
     the datasets in the different databases handled in the FOREST Action go
     back to the 1980s, the work in this task consists in the support to the FOREST
     staff regarding time series analysis of the data since the 1980s
     until 2008. The work requires the further analysis of the data according
     to future scenarios and the detection of noticeable trends in time.
     Analysis and modeling of data in relation to future
     climate change scenarios: the work in this area requires the spatial and
     temporal analysis of data and their projection according to foreseen
     climate change scenarios. It requires the use of statistical and
     geo-statistical tools and geographic information systems.

 Requirements:

4 year university degree and a minimum of 9
     years of professional experience (or 13 years of experience without
     university degree); Important: Knowledge of
     programming languages in statistics and spatial analysis using GRASS;
     High-level skills in use of GIS software (e.g. ARC GIS,
     ARC-AML); Experience with data analysis and quality control;
     Spatial/temporal statistical data analysis;
     knowledge of English.

Any of the following would also be an asset:

Knowledge of data management in a Linux
     environment;
