Although there's a seeming disconnect between the SDI and e-gov research
communities, in practice, the two areas appear to be seeing eye to
eye.... if the 3rd European eGovernment Awards 2007 are any sign.
The European eGovernment Awards 2007 are organized by the European
Commission, http://www.epractice.eu/awards. This year, a number
of SDI/geospatial web services were nominated as a finalists:
Spatial Data Infraestructure, Government of La Rioja (Spain) (IDERioja)
35 local governments from 3 countries sharing one GIS infrastructure (LoG-IN
Évora Digital District (EDD) - Évora County Digital Project
Donegal Online Planning Services (DOPS)
Electronic Conveyancing (ELAN) - Kadaster (the Dutch Cadastre, Land Registry
& Mapping Agency)
Integrated Title Registration Information System (ITRIS) - Ireland the
Property Registration Authority
MEPA eApplications (MEPAeApps) - Malta Environment and Planning Authority
The German Environmental Information Portal (PortalU)
The Norwegian national portal for geographic and environmental information
If you want to vote for any of these finalists to be one of the final
winners, voting is open until 15 September. To be eligible to vote, you must
be a registered user of, and with a full profile on, the Good Practice
portal (http://www.epractice.eu/cases/awards2007) before 7 September 2007.
In total, 311 cases were received from from 32 of the 34 eligible European
countries. 53 cases were nominated as finalists. The list of all 53 cases
can be found at the Good Practice portal,
The cases received and finalists selected were in the following theme:
Better public services for growth and jobs - 7 Finalists selected from 28
Participation and transparency - 13 Finalists selected from 49 cases
Social impact and cohesion - 7 Finalists selected from 40 cases submitted
Effective and efficient administration - 26 Finalists selected from 194
The five final winners will be announced during the Awards ceremony on 20
September at the Ministerial eGovernment Conference 2007 in Lisbon,
